It’s 2010 – Happy New Year from Hong Kong and welcome to the beginning of a new decade!

As with every new year, most people are making New Year Resolutions for themselves, whether it is meant to improve their lives personally or professionally.

However, 2010 is different because not only is it a New Year, it is also a New Decade…

When it comes to making your resolutions this time around, you must think bigger picture in terms of what you want to achieve not just for this year, but for the next 10 years!

I know, I know… making goals for the next 10 years seems to be somewhat of a stretch…

This was exactly what I thought the last time I renewed my passport (In the United States, passports expire every 10 years).

I thought to myself, “Wow – I won’t need to renew my passport for another 10 years… That’s PLENTY of time!”

Guess what? I just finished renewing my passport again several weeks ago…

The point I’m trying to make is not just that I’m getting old and that time can fly right by you before you know it, but also that you need to set the appropriate goals for yourself and make sure you use this time to achieve what is important to you.

Back in 2000, I was a broke college student struggling to finish my Bachelor degree, eating ramen and soy sauce over rice with every meal, with dreams of finding success and traveling the world.

When I received my renewed passport in the mail, the first thing I did (after getting over how unsatisfied I was with my passport photo) was set a goal for myself to fill up every page of that passport before it was due to expire in 10 years.

For a college student who averaged maybe one trip to Hong Kong every year or two to visit family, this was a pretty tall order.

Before I knew it, a year has gone by, two years, five years, eight years, and I had barely made a dent on my passport, continuing to average maybe one or two International flights a year, filling up only a quarter or so of my passport pages.

When I realized my time was running out, I decided to kick my business into high gear and began expanding my company overseas.

Within the course of about a year, I managed to expand my business from just within the United States to Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand and China.

I’ve also had the chance to take personal and business vacations to places like Mexico, Caribbeans, Nova Scotia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan, Macau and of course, right here in my hometown of Hong Kong.

Needless to say, these International trips (most places I visited multiple times) resulted in many additional stamps on my passport, and I actually filled up every single one of these pages an entire year before my passport was due to expire.

The moral of the story is that every year, we make New Year Resolutions for ourselves, generic ones like make more money, eat more healthy, quit smoking, work out more, lose weight and spend less money.

Many of our resolutions, if not most or all, are almost never achieved and even die away within a day or two after you have set them.

Well this year, since 2010 marks the beginning of a new decade, why not be a little different?

Why not set a goal for yourself that is higher than what you would normally set, and more specific than what you would normally declare?

How about something that is not “achieved” by doing once, like going to the gym or refraining from eating a greasy burger?

Push yourself to the point where you know what your own limits are, and then surpassing them because you have set a higher goal for yourself.

Success does not happen overnight – You must work hard at it every day and strive to reach the point in which you would consider it successful.

Yes, it may take you up to ten years to achieve it, whatever it may be – To max out your passport with travels, to build a seven or eight figure business from scratch, to attain financial freedom for your family, or whatever that goal might be.

And let me tell you, once you complete these goals and raise your arms in victory, there is no better feeling – especially if you found that you have done it in less than 10 years

Happy New Year and don’t just make 2010 your year – Make This Your Decade!

Hello from the Swiss Grand Hotel on Bondi Beach at the Internet Marketing Bootcamp in Sydney, Australia!

By popular demand, Nikhil Parekh and I have put together an entire event based on the nuts and bolts of the Internet Marketing business starting from A to Z.

For the Internet Marketing Bootcamp, we have decided to limit our attendance to no more than 50 attendees (compared to the 200 we’ve had in our past events), so that we can make it more interactive and also have the opportunity to personally help everyone and answer all their questions.

With the help of Andy Huang and David DiNucci, we were once again able to pull off yet another spectacular event.

To top it off, we even decided at the last minute to extend our event an additional two days to spend more time with serious students who are dedicated to helping us expand our AIMVenture Corporation agency services to the Australian market.

This was an extremely aggressive way for us to conclude the Internet Marketing Bootcamp, but now, we have some of our best students helping us grow our business, and getting rewarded handsomely as a result of their help

Hello from the Swiss Grand Hotel on Bondi Beach at the AdWords Mastery in Sydney, Australia!

This time, I’ve brought along my business partners Andy Huang and David DiNucci to help run this spectacular event we are putting on for almost 200 attendees.

Over the course of the weekend, we covered Google AdWords fundamentals, optimization strategies and landing page formulas designed to overcome the dreaded “Google Slap,” which refers to penalties advertisers get as a result of creating campaigns that are not Google friendly.

For our VIP students, we also organized an evening networking party to socialize and get the chance to know everyone better, which is much easier to do in a social setting compared to the seminar room.

And for the record, I just want to say that I simply LOVE doing events “down under” … Check out this Australian welcome!

Hello from the Ionic Room of the Sydney Masonic Centre at the Internet AuStars Google Insider Secrets to Social Media Domination in Sydney, Australia!

The Google Insider Secrets to Social Media Domination is my first project under the Internet AuStars brand with my good friend, Nikhil Parekh.

For those of you who don’t know him, Nikhil Parekh is a very successful Internet entrepreneur and one of the leading marketing experts in Australia teaching fellow entrepreneurs how to make money online.

This past weekend in Sydney, Nikhil Parekh and I organized the Google Insider Secrets to Social Media Domination event for over 150 attendees, teaching the importance of using social media for branding, building relationships and marketing, and primarily to get high authority search engine rankings on Google.

In fact, Nikhil Parekh and I demonstrated how powerful effective social media marketing can really be live on stage by getting multiple page one rankings for some pretty competitive keywords!

But in addition to the content and live demos, we also realized the opportunity to network with one another not only in the room during the event, but after the event on both days as well.

Anyone interested were invited to join us for additional fun and networking opportunities after the events for chats, meals and even a nice evening cruise around the Sydney harbor.

Overall, it was a tremendous experience and my weekend in Sydney working with Nikhil Parekh at our Internet AuStars event was one heck of a way to wrap up my Australia trip.

The World Internet Summit (aka WIS) is always an incredible learning and networking experience.

I had the opportunity to present back in September 2007 when Brett McFall and Tom Hua co-organized the seminar (then called World Internet Main Event) with Mike Filsaime, Paulie Sabol and Donna Fox in San Francisco.

But this weekend, I was extremely excited to watch Brett McFall and Tom Hua in action in their home country of Australia, where they not only brought local experts to the World Internet Summit Gold Coast stage, they also invited several of my fellow marketing expert friends from the states.

The World Internet Summit Gold Coast speaker line-up included Matt Bacak, Sean Roach, Dr. Mike Woo-Ming, Brian “Koz” Kosobucki, Nikhil Parekh, Debra Thompson Roedl, Matt Clarkson, Amanda Clarkson, Barnaby De Palma, Raymond Aaron, James Schramko and Scott Letourneau.

Needless to say, the World Internet Summit Gold Coast audience definitely got their money’s worth with the priceless content these speakers shared.

Off the World Internet Summit stage, we even got to hang out at the local restaurants and bars in Gold Coast’s nightlife area called Surfer’s Paradise.

As you can see, we stayed out of trouble (for the most part) – but we no doubt had some good times with friends downtown…
